Pain: Scientists reveal what sex suffers more

Ascientist recently published in the journal Nature Neuroscience study argues strongly that pain is processed differently depending on the gender of the afflicted person, which represents a completely new perspective in the study of pain and open amazing doors for treatment. The study, conducted by a group of scientists from the Centre for Research on Pain Alan Edwards (Canada) specifies that women are more likely to suffer chronic pain. The research, conducted on laboratory mice, started with the idea scientifically accepted that pain is transmitted from the site of injury or inflammation through the nervous system using a cell of the immune systemcalled microglia; however, scientists found to their surprise that this happens only in male mice. Ie based treatments block the function of microglia to eliminate pain worked only in male mice; in female mice, however, they were the T cells responsible for activating the pain, although this mechanism has not been fully understood yet. One of the study authors, Michael Salter of the University of Toronto, said "the understanding of the pathways of pain and sex differences is absolutely essential in the development of a new generation of more sophisticated drugs to alleviate pain ".
